I MAKE THINGS COME ALIVE.

ABOUT DEV
I've always wanted to make things.
Growing up, my dad was a carpenter, so I was always surrounded by creation. He built sets, props, and puppets for our community and for us, and I always wanted to do the same—to make beautiful things for people who would love them.
I loved drawing, and for a while I wanted to be a Disney animator. Then I discovered the Muppets and became completely obsessed with everything Jim Henson.
That obsession eventually turned into a career.
I'm a Brooklyn-based puppet maker, fabricator, sculptor, prop maker, designer, and theatre maker. My work combines traditional hands-on fabrication with 3D modeling, digital sculpture, and whatever techniques a project demands.
What keeps me coming back to puppetry is the moment a thing I've made suddenly feels alive.
WHAT I CARE ABOUT
Texture. Color. Movement. Humor. Weirdness. Beauty. Horror. Play. Absurdity. Nostalgia.
I want my work to create awe, laughter, suspension of disbelief, and that strange feeling of seeing something impossible become real.
I'm Dev Orr, a Brooklyn-based artist, puppet maker, fabricator, sculptor, prop maker, designer, and theatre maker.
My work lives somewhere between the handmade and the impossible! Bright colors, strange creatures, and puppets that feel like they could get up and walk away.
